After more than a decade in self-imposed exile under an assumed name, Crisostomo Ibarra returns once again to his homeland, now as Simoun, a jeweler, and plots to incite mass action to topple the torpid trestle of the Spanish Colonizers in the Philippines. I caught a glimpse of this reality early on, and it haunted me as I dabbled in the weed game over the years. It was during a parking lot dope deal, during that brief part of the 'seventies that still felt like the 60s, before disco, before cocaine, before the reign of greed took final and absolute control.

This is a love story without tears, a soap opera with no soap, a political fable about survivors in the ruins of the reign of greed.
