[] My husband has bipolar disorder, mostly manic. He has been taking GABA (amino acid), about 3 or 4 per day, which really helps. He also takes lithium aspartate, about 5 per day, 5 mg. each. Both of these are found at our local health store. These are both calming for him, provided he takes enough. If he escalates into mania, he takes a little more GABA daily, until balanced again.

I suspect my husband has Bipolar Disorder

We've dealt with my daughter's tantrums and mood swings since she was about 2 years old. Lately they've gotten worse and she deliberately tries to start fights/annoy everyone, so we took her to a psychiatrist, who diagnosed her with ODD (oppositional defiant disorder). My husband has bipolar disorder and depression and anxiety disorder occur on both sides of the family. My daughter is in counseling and it is slooooowly getting better. I'm not saying your daughter has ODD, but she sounds like my daughter at that age and I just wanted to suggest another avenue to investigate.

I particularly appreciated her points in #10, because after my husband recovered from his psychotic episode, I had two really serious anxiety attacks over the next 18 months that were related to the trauma I’d gone through as a result of his illness.
For a long time, I felt the need to be the strong one and keep everything together, but that’s not a sustainable approach to marriage for the long haul. Couples therapy has been so beneficial for us.

This is a topic that is so near to my heart. My husband has bipolar disorder, and almost 10 years ago I nearly lost him to suicide. Miraculously, he lived. From there he started the process of physical and mental healing. It’s a process that continues to this day.
